Data Protection

The Data Protection Act 1998 requires organisations who collect and use personal data to register as data controllers with the Data Commissioner, and to comply with a set of principles and a code of practice on how to store and use the data held. For arts organisations, data held from ticket bookings and used for marketing and fund raising purposes are areas of concern, and the legislation has meant changes in practices.

The person whose data is held (the data subject) has the right to see the information held on them and to opt out of mailings.
